Monotheism in Formation : Israel’s faith in YHWH was affirmed, though the biblical record shows ongoing tension with surrounding polytheistic practices. Priestly Role : Priests and Levites administered sacrifices, maintained purity laws, and mediated between the people and God. Covenant Theology : Israel understood itself as bound to YHWH by covenant, with blessings for obedience and judgment for disobedience. Prophetic Tradition : Prophets such as Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Amos critiqued ritualism without justice and called for ethical covenant faithfulness. First C: Culture Culture is a strong part of people's lives. It influences their views, values, humor—their loyalties, fears, and hopes. Words have specific meanings to the language and to the culture in which they are used. That is why it is essential to learn about the Hebrew language and Jewish culture of Jesus. Jesus lived during the 1st century while the Temple was still in full operation with the sacrificial system. However, at that time, the whole region was under oppressive Roman rule. Jesus was born into a Jewish family in Bethlehem. He was later raised in Nazareth as a Jewish kid to study the Torah in a synagogue. Jesus was a Middle Eastern, Galilean, Torah-observant Jew. With His family, He traveled during the three pilgrimage feasts up to the Temple in Jerusalem. He was a Rabbi in Galilee and taught in all of the synagogues. He went back to Jerusalem during the Jewish holy festival of Passover to be sacrificed as the ultimate Lamb of Judah, and He will come back again as the Lion of Judah. So when you are reading Scripture and building relationships with Jesus, it helps to have some perspective and understanding of His Jewish identity and culture. These online courses will give you practical information about how to understand Jesus in His 1st century culture. It is different from your own western modern culture. By the way, I have a complete online course about the differences between Eastern and Western cultures. Second C: Customs A custom is a pattern of behavior that is followed by members of a particular culture. Most people adhere to customs without any real understanding of why they exist or how they got started. The purpose of customs is to provide a sense of association and belonging to communities, groups, and organizations within a society. Because customs are so important to social harmony, over time, they become the norms of society. Third C: Context In general, the meanings of words are found within the context of sentences and in how a sentence finds its context in the other sentences that surround it. When interpreting Scripture, we must understand what the context of the passage is. Every verse in the Bible has a specific historical context, which has to do with culture, customs, time in history, author, audience, the geographical and political situations, and the occasion and purpose of the writing. Historical context helps us to see more clearly the circumstances around events in time that we are not familiar with. • The Aaronic Blessing | Twins Biblical Academy | Israel

The Aaronic Blessing The Aaronic Blessing, also known as the Priestly Blessing or Birkat Kohanim (בִּרְכַּת כֹּהֲנִים), is one of the most well-known and cherished passages in the Hebrew Bible. Found in Numbers 6:24-26, it is a three-part blessing delivered by Aaron and his sons to bless the Israelites. ← BACK TO ALL COURSES THE LESSONS Meet Your Instructor Andre Moubarak Andre Moubarak is the owner and founder of Twins Tours & Travel Ltd. in Israel. The first video of this course is free, you can buy this course to see all the videos. Buy Now Cost Cultural and Historical Context: The Aaronic Blessing was given directly by God to Moses, instructing Aaron and his sons to bless the people of Israel. This marked the priestly role as not just intermediaries in sacrifices, but also conveyors of divine favor. In the Temple, the blessing was pronounced daily. Today, it is recited in Jewish liturgy during synagogue services, weddings, and other significant ceremonies. The tripartite structure reflects increasing layers of divine blessing: material well-being (blessing and protection), spiritual enlightenment (grace and presence), and ultimate wholeness (peace). Theological Significance: Covenantal Relationship: The blessing reaffirms God’s covenant with Israel, promising care, grace, and peace. Divine Favor: God's “face” shining upon someone symbolizes His favor and presence, crucial in ancient Near Eastern contexts. Shalom as the Ultimate Blessing: The culmination of the blessing is "shalom," encompassing well-being, harmony, and completeness—central to the Hebrew concept of a blessed life. RESOURCES ABOUT

  • Christians of the Holy Land | Twins Biblical Academy | Israel

Christians of the Holy Land There have always been Christian communities in the Middle East. Very few are aware of the existence of more than ten million Christians currently in the Middle East that speak the original Semetic languages. There is a general assumption in the West that Arabs and Muslims are synonymous. This is simply not true, though we the Arab Christians are part of the Arab civilization and culture. In the West, the term Arab is equated with Muslims. This is certainly a misconception of both Middle Eastern history and Christianity. Christianity was born here in our cities and in our villages. Christianity is original to our land and is not imported from outside; our heritage is genuine and ancient. Thus, it is important for our Christianity to be recognized. Moreover, to fully understand the Bible, it is crucial to understand the Christian Middle Eastern culture. Even our normal and daily conversation as Arab Christians are full of Biblical language and Biblical atmosphere. ← BACK TO ALL COURSES THE LESSONS Meet Your Instructor Tony Moubarak I am a licensed Christian Arab Israeli tour guide. In the birthplace of Christianity, Christians are currently 2% of the population of Israel and less than 1% of the Palestinian territories (The W.B. & Gaza). In Israel proper and in Jerusalem, we can call it more discrimination for the Christians, but in the West Bank, including the Gaza Strip, it is more persecution. In the land here, there are three main groups of Palestinians We will learn a lot and in depth about Christians of the Holy Land 1) The Palestinian Christians of East Jerusalem. 1% out of 1 million, that is less than 10,000 thousand Christians in Jerusalem today, that we spoke about in the past webinar. 2) The Palestinian Christians who are left and stayed in Israel since 1948 and who are now called Arab Israelis. They live in Israeli cities now, such as Haifa and Nazareth and many other Galilean villages mostly in the northern part of the country. There are about 180,000 Christian citizens of Israel 9 million. 3) Palestinians Christians of the West Bank and the Gaza strip, such as in Nablus, Ramallah, Bethlehem, and the other Palestinian cities. About 50,000 Christians in the West Bank (out of the 5 million), and around 800 Christians living in the whole Gaza Strip (out of the 2 million). In this next webinar, as i said we will more concentrate more on the Arab- Israeli Christians of the Holy Land and talk a little bit some of their challenges living in Israel: How does the Arab- Israeli Christians Identify themselves? How come they are more integrated into the Jewish system? There is a lot of differences between the Jerusalem Christians who mainly live in east Jrslm, the Arab Israeli Christians who live in Israel proper, and the Palestinian Christians who live in the West Bank and even who live in Gaza. • Weekly Torah Portions | Twins Biblical Academy | Israel

Weekly Torah Portions This course introduces the Jewish tradition of reading the Torah, as they read it fully and continuously. This includes a Torah portion every week for the whole entire year. We will follow this traditional Jewish division into weekly portions, tracing selected themes from the Torah, one portion of each book of the Five Books of Moses, and their presentation and representation in the New Testament. ← BACK TO ALL COURSES THE LESSONS Meet Your Instructor Tony Moubarak I am a licensed Christian Arab Israeli tour guide. Moreover, I enjoy sharing my love and knowledge of this unique country as a tour guide with a great passion. The first video of this course is free, you can buy this course to see all the videos. Buy Now Cost The first introduction lesson focuses on the roots of this custom of Torah reading that is traced back to the pages of the Hebrew Bible itself. Both the Old Testament and the New Testament hold information on practices of Torah reading and studying all the way from the time of Joshua to the time of Jesus and even afterwards until today. So, the discussion of all of these customs and rituals will help us understand better the times of the first century of Jesus. We will see how well the New Testament holds information on practices of Torah reading and studying at the time of Jesus, the synagogues he and his contemporaries attended, the rituals they knew and in which they participated. 1. “In the Beginning”, (פרשת בראשית - Parashat Berashit) , Genesis 1: 1- 6: 8 Is the first Torah portion read on the first Shabbat after Simchat Torah, (the celebration of completing a cycle and beginning a new cycle of reading the Torah). Now in this Parasha we have some major events: From the creation story- to Noah, we will talk about the creation of Adam and Eve, the Fall and the Punishment, to the becoming of the sinful generation that led to the great flood, there is even the mentioning of Noah where the Parasha ends. 2. “Noah”, (פרשת נח- Parashat Noah) , Genesis 6: 9- 11: 32 We are going to talk about Noah’s character, and learn about the flood and how come that water was used as a means of destruction, we will introduce more the symbol of the Ark, and discuss the covenant that was made by God with Noah and his family after the flood, discovering together some of the Hebrew insights as well. 3. “Names”, (פרשת שמות - Parashat Shemot) , Exodus 1: 1- 6: 1 The first focus of this Torah Portion is the new era in which the sons of Israel find themselves: When a new Egyptian king, unaware of the past of Joseph and his deeds, now fears the Israelites, who have multiplied into a nation. Fearing their power, the Egyptian king enforces a series of decrees against the Israelites, enslaving them and planning to kill all the boys born to them. 4. “And He Called”, (פרשת ויקרא- Parashat Vayikra), Leviticus 1- 5 Here we are going to focus on its main subject which is the sacrifices and offerings to god, we are going to learn about those different types of offerings, and their importance. Sacrifices were the central act of worship in Bible times and were therefore understood by everyone. But it baffles us, the modern readers. How can this crude and barbaric practice bring a person into a relationship with god? We will try to address this question as well. 5. “When You Set Up the Candles'', ( פרשת בהעלותך- Parashat Behaalotcha) , Numbers 8- 12 When you set up the candles, it is the third Parasha of the book of numbers. In this lesson we will focus on the menorah, because of the significance it has taken on, overtime throughout history, which became an important Jewish national and religious symbol. So, we will be looking into an overview of the history of the most important ancient symbol for the Jews, the menorah. 6. “Words”, ( פרשת דברים - Parashat Devarim), Deuteronomy 1: 1- 3: 22 This Torah portion contains a historical survey in the form of a speech by Moses, summarizing all the past events. So, we will be looking together at some of these themes that are found important in Moses' last speech. Aramaic Book of Matthew Interpretation Ch 1 - 28 Aramaic was the language of Jesus and the disciples. So wouldn’t it be amazing if you could hear what the Aramaic New Testament sounded like? Wouldn’t it be exciting to hear this ancient, two thousand year old language come to life and hear it spoken today? Well, now you can! Andre will be reading and explaining the 1st century Custom Context Culture of the Gospel of Matthew from Chapter 1 - 28. ← BACK TO ALL COURSES THE LESSONS Meet Your Instructor Andre Moubarak Andre Moubarak is the owner and founder of Twins Tours & Travel Ltd. in Israel. The first video of this course is free, you can buy this course to see all the videos. Buy Now Cost How is Matthew Different from the Other Gospels? The Gospel of Matthew mainly differs from the other gospels due to its heavily Jewish perspective. He also quotes the Old Testament far more than any of the other gospels. He spends a great deal of time pointing out references from the Torah present in Jesus' teachings. It also contained five collections of teachings regarding Jesus' commandments. Those teachings were about the law, mission, mystery, greatness, and future of the Kingdom. The Gospel of Matthew also points out the Jewish apathy at the time, which prompted the spreading of the message to the gentiles. Matthew's job as a tax collector is also evident in his Gospel. He discusses money far more in the Gospel of Matthew than any other book, especially in the parable of the Talent. The Peshitta: Aramaic is almost forgotten language, based on a completely different and an unfamiliar view a forever fresh (holistic) approach: the Aramaic language. I use the original Aramaic Bible in my teaching called The Peshitta: Peshitta is derived from the Syriac literally meaning "simple version". However, it is also possible to translate pšîṭtâ as "common" (that is, for all people), or "straight", as well as the usual translation as "simple". Simplicity is the key of approaching scripture. Aramaic can only be spoken and understood through the heart. An intellectual person without heart contact will not grab hold or understand the language’s depth. The heart sings its song. The tones, the rhythm, be yourself who you are and what meant to be, because it is creation’s expression of unconditional love (HoBo) Mercy (rakhmanii) and forgiveness (shbaaq). Not many people are able to hear this song of the heart. Most Christians in the Western culture have inherited the Greek or Western mindset, meaning they think in a different way than the people of the Bible. This means that much of what you read in the Bible is lost on a Western culture and then becomes confusing when it is explained through a western lens.
