About the event
In the Bible, Bet She’an is mentioned in connection with King Saul’s final battle on Mount Gilboa. After his death, his body was brought here by the Philistines. Later, King David became the ruler of Israel.
During the Roman and Byzantine periods, the city, known as Scythopolis, became one of the ten cities of the Decapolis and a major cultural center. Visitors today can still see the Roman theatre, colonnaded streets, bathhouses, and beautiful mosaics that show the city’s rich past.
Bet She’an tells the story of many ages and empires in one place.
